August Meeting Update:
We have a great nationally known guest speaker on the schedule. His topic will be technical but not quite amateur radio related. Our speaker will be none other than Robert Zimmerman KB3IWD. Bob is a regular on the John Batchelor radio talk show and podcast. Bob’s topic will be “The Present State of America’s Space Effort”.
Robert Zimmerman is a space historian and science journalist. He will provide an update on NASA’s Artemis manned space program, describing how NASA’s new administrator, Jared Isaacman, is reshaping and rationalizing the Artemis program so that it can actually accomplish something. Isaacman’s most important decision may be asking the private sector to do the job.
In that context, Zimmerman will also describe the competing space program of the private company SpaceX, whose achievements and plans are in many ways more successful than anything NASA has done in decades.
Zimmerman has written numerous books on the history of space exploration, and reports daily about space and science at his webpage, “Behind the Black”, beyondtheblack.com.
