Hi all.
I’ve returned from my long summer wander up north and have begun re-engaging with projects here. One of which is the upcoming CACTUS Special Event that we are organizing for the end of November. It’s starting to get close and there’s much to do to pull it off.
In brief, CACTUS is an RST hosted event similar to the Route 66, 13 Colonies, Lewis and Clark, and other events where a large number of operators take shifts to operate one of the special event call signs. The “hunters” participating in the event try to collect contacts with each of the event’s special calls. For our CACTUS event, we will have operators logging under 8 event callsigns over a 9 day event period.
We are evaluating a logging system called WaveLog, an online logging system, for this purpose. It has some great “club station” features that facilitate club members logging their QSOs into the centralized club log. The basic workflow is you log into the club’s installation of WaveLog, switch from your call to your assigned special event call, and log away.
One requirement is that each club member who will participate have an account on the club’s installation of WaveLog. I will set up these accounts for anyone who anticipates participating as an operator in the CACTUS event. Please send me an email requesting an account for your call. Direct email to bill@wizardofaz.net would be preferable to flooding the general membership list.

Hi Bill, welcome back and thank you for taking on these organizing responsibilities. I would like to participate in the event, so keep me on the contact list and set up my WaveLog account.
Since I’ve never participated in one of these special events, I do have a basic question, namely how is the event to be structured in terms of the planned operating location(s)? Would the participating operators drop in at a specific location during the event and work from a station that had been set up especially for the event, as we did during the DX contest last spring at Ken’s corral or at the Titan Missile Museum?
Thanks again Bill..

Good question Ray. I’m replying to everyone since maybe it’s a question several people have.
Probably most RST participants that activate one of the special call signs, e.g. K7C, will operate from home. But some members have expressed interest in hosting operators (OP A) at their own (OP B) home station. The idea is to provide access to some station capabilities that OP B has that OP A does not. Or to provide some support for ops that might be nervous trying this on their own for the first time. Or just to have a context for 2 or more members to get together and operate.
A variant on this is that we plan to have one (or maybe more) stations set up at Ken’s barn/corral. RST members will be able to sign up for a slot and operate from there.
So all options are open. You can operate from home, from a portable setup of your choice (could even be POTA or SOTA), from Reid Park during a Days In The Park outing, from some other member’s house, or from the OK Corral.
Hope that answers the question. I’ll make your account Ray and send info separately.
